Getting to and from Phu Quoc
Phu Quoc is an island, so you arrive by plane or by boat. Here's how each option works, how long it takes, roughly what it costs, and how to travel on when you leave. Prices are from our partners' booking pages in October 2026.
By plane
Phu Quoc International Airport (PQC) is in the middle of the island, about 10 km south of Dương Đông town. Many flights a day come from Ho Chi Minh City (about 1 hour, from around $26), plus Hanoi, Da Nang and other Vietnamese cities, and direct international flights arrive from several Asian countries, many of them seasonal.
Visa: if you fly straight into Phu Quoc from abroad and stay on the island, most nationalities can visit visa-free for up to 30 days. Going on to mainland Vietnam needs a regular Vietnamese visa. Rules change, so check before you fly.
From the airport to your hotel
Grab works at the airport and is the easiest choice: about 15–20 minutes to Long Beach or Dương Đông, 25 minutes to Sunset Town and An Thới, and 45 minutes to Grand World and VinWonders in the north. VinBus routes 17 and 19 also stop at the airport. If you land late or have a lot of luggage, book a private transfer before you fly.
By ferry from Rạch Giá or Hà Tiên
Fast boats from the mainland arrive at Bãi Vòng port on the east coast, about 30 minutes by road from Long Beach. From Rạch Giá the crossing takes 2½–3 hours, with around 14 departures between 7 am and 3 pm, from about $12. From Hà Tiên the fast boats take about 1 hour 20 minutes and the slower car ferry about 3 hours, from about $8.
In the rainy season boats can be cancelled at short notice when the sea is rough, so leave some slack before an onward flight.
By bus and ferry from Ho Chi Minh City or Cần Thơ
Combined tickets cover a bus to the coast and the boat across. From Ho Chi Minh City most buses leave in the evening and arrive the next morning, 9–13 hours in all, from about $20. From Cần Thơ it's shorter, from about $33. Flying from Ho Chi Minh City costs about the same and takes an hour.
Leaving Phu Quoc
The same boats run back to Hà Tiên and Rạch Giá, with buses on to Ho Chi Minh City and Cần Thơ.
For Cambodia, a daily trip leaves around 7:30 am: a boat to Hà Tiên, a minivan to the Xà Xía – Prek Chak border, which you cross on foot, then a Cambodian driver to Kep, Kampot (about 6 hours in all) or Phnom Penh, from about $40. Bring your passport and check Cambodia's current visa rules before you go.
Getting around, and before you go
On the island, Grab, scooters and private cars with a driver are the usual ways to get around. Set up an eSIM before you land so maps and Grab work the moment you arrive, and if you plan to ride a scooter, make sure your travel insurance covers it.
